Moda Sampler Block Shuffle

Beginning Thursday, November 5th, 2015, we will be offering a FREE series of blocks in our newsletter and on our website - the Moda Sampler Block Shuffle!  These blocks have been designed by the fabulous Moda fabric designers.

Each week, you will be able to download patterns for (2-3) 6" finished blocks, and there are 30 blocks in the series, as well as a setting pattern. You will only have ONE WEEK to download that week's installment - and then it will be gone! These are great little blocks - grab a jelly roll or layer cake to begin with, or a handful of fat quarters, or use up your scraps! I have chosen a Modern Background Paper Layer Cake paired with a variety of Cotton+Steel fat quarters to begin.

Even if you don't have time to get started sewing, at least save them for later! The series will continue weekly through early January.  You must download or print EACH WEEK's blocks before they are replaced by the following week's blocks!

Before You Begin...

IF you are a planner, Moda has designed a setting pattern for these blocks.  This quilt finishes at 59-1/2" x 68".  Of course, you can choose to set them any way your heart desires.  But, if you wish to use their design, you can download the setting pattern NOW for fabric planning purposes. Download the Moda Sampler Block Shuffle pattern.

Several blocks use the Easy Corner Triangle method for making half-square triangles.  You can download this helpful instruction guide.

If you are going to use the provided setting pattern, you will notice that there are flying geese in the inner border.  You can download Moda's flying geese instructions now.  If you choose to use this method for your flying geese, you might want to make a few with each block, or you can wait until the end and utilize scraps for these.   Before you have a heart attack thinking about making all those flying geese, I will tell you NOW that I will be using the Triangles on a Roll Sew and Fold 1.5"x3" Flying Geese papers for my borders.  You can get yours here.  I will show you my borders in progress on this page when I get started.  Just think about it.

Remember, you have only SEVEN DAYS to download each week's block patterns!

December 24th, 2015 - Week #8  No Blocks this week - Merry Christmas!

Due to Christmas, there are no blocks this week. If you have time, you might want to begin on the flying geese inner borders this week.

If you haven't already downloaded the flying geese instructions, you get them here.

I am choosing to use 1-1/2"x3" Flying Geese on a Roll to create my borders. If you also choose to use this method, you will need to make (2) strips with 28 geese, and (2) strips with 38 geese.

If you have never used Flying Geese on a Roll, you can view a great step-by-step tutorial here. This method is a great time saver, and every goose unit is perfect.

Enjoy your Christmas break, and we'll be back next week with 3 new blocks.
